Innerleithen,

Scottish Borders

Hello! I’m Rach and I’m the face behind The Flower Bee. I took the plunge in to the world of Floristry in 2016, when I took a couple of weeks off from my Accountancy job to attend Flower School Glasgow, and haven’t looked back since. From 2016 until the end of 2018 I worked for a local florist, which helped me find my feet, and pushed me out of my comfort zone several times. In March 2019, The Flower Bee opened its doors for the first time. I never planned on running my own business so soon, but I would never look back. I love being my own boss more than I ever thought I would, choosing the florals every week, making decisions on which gift stock to order, and being the point of contact for all my lovely customers. I enjoy all aspects of the job, from the ordering to the sweeping up. From putting together a lovely bridal bouquet, to designing someone’s final farewell flowers. I love the challenge of something new, so don’t be afraid to let me know any ideas you have. I’m so lucky to run a business that brings so much happiness to people on a daily basis and doubly lucky to be living my own wee flowery dream.

Portishead,

North Somerset

Sarah has always been one to spot an opportunity. Her career began at Fowlers florist in Portishead High Street and after demonstrating a flair for floral arrangements, she studied floristry for three years at Plymouth College of Art. After college Sarah went travelling and her artistic ability earned her a job on the other side of the world where she was invited to help at the legendary spring flower show in Sydney.
She is well known for her exquisite gift flowers and her premises in Portishead High Street allows her to sell every day flowers, as well as her famous gift bouquets. She also has plans to sell pot plants, bedding plants and silk flowers. In addition, candles and quality gifts will line the shelves. Sarah added: “I am listening to what my customers want and I am trying to meet their needs wherever I can. From a bunch of daffs to full banqueting flowers”, Sarah Tynan Flowers aims to serve the whole community and beyond.” Abridged from the North Somerset Times.

Sandbach,

Cheshire East

Hi, I’m Helen. My love of flowers began long before I started as a florist 28 years ago as an apprentice in a flower shop in Liverpool. I worked hard and ended up owning a florist’s in Leigh, Lancashire and also taught floristry at St. Helen’s College. I moved onto Marks and Spencer’s head office in London training their staff at customer service but ultimately my passion for floristry was too strong. I worked at a flower shop in Sandbach part-time for 10 years but always wanted to run my own florist and do things my way again. So with a little saving and fantastic support from husband Andrew, Flowers on the Cobbles was born! Flowers on the Cobbles is about a team of fabulous people, all passionate about beautiful flowers. Jan, a former primary school teacher, decided on a career change but uses the same principles from her teaching as she does with her flowers. Helen number 2, has worked in a large florist in London for several years and is a fabulous asset to have around. And then there’s Emma! The newest member of our team, who started with us doing work experience whilst studying floristry at Reaseheath College. She was so good, she became a permanent team member! I feel so blessed to have such an amazing team of like-minded people around me every day! We’ve been humbled by the feedback from local people who have been so supportive of the shop. We are building quite a pile of “thank you” notes from happy customers which are a testament to the skill and quality of our work. We love brightening your day with beautiful bouquets and stunning arrangements, so if you need flowers delivering in Sandbach, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel, Congleton, Crewe and anywhere in between – give us a call! Fabulous flowers are what make us tick.

Aldermaston,

Berkshire

From a farming background where ‘growing your own’ for the local show was a must, I have had a love of flowers since I was a young girl. My Grandad Woodley gave me my first bunch of sweet peas for my bedroom straight from his allotment, and that was it! I began ‘learning the ropes’ when I was 13 years old with a Saturday job at a local garden centre, being trained by an amazing floral designer. Since then I have used my flair for floral design to produce flowers for all occasions. I still enter local shows and national ‘NAFAS’ shows where I have won many prizes. It’s now time for me to realise my forever dream with my own florists, so here we are. Why Mad Hatter? Well, I have a love for everything ‘Alice in Wonderland’ – the story set in the countryside with a young girl’s imagination running wild seems very apt. All my floral creations are bespoke, using seasonal British grown flowers wherever possible.
